Jentin Racing-BMW Motorrad's Richard Cooper will line up on the second row of the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship in the first of two races at this weekend's British MotoGP round at Silverstone.
Cooper took sixth spot on his BMW S 1000 RR in this evening's second qualifying session after the often-fickle British summer weather turned on the circuit, resulting in difficult wet conditions.
Cooper said: "I'm very pleased with today's qualifying. The conditions were testing and despite playing it safe in the first session, we still managed the fourth fastest time.
"We sat out the beginning of the second session as the circuit wasn't getting any dryer or faster. When I did go out, I cruised round waiting for the right time to really go for it. In hindsight, I probably left it a little too late. I know I could have got a faster lap in because it was all coming together nicely as the track started to speed up.
"We were aiming for the first three rows so with a second row start, I'm well in the mix. The bike really suits the fast Silverstone circuit and I can quite easily pass down the straights. My bike's a fast old girl so I'm confident of a good performance tomorrow."
Bernie Toleman, Team Manager said: "To be honest, this has been our best Superstock qualifying performance of the season.
"With tough, tricky conditions, we had two qualifying sessions with only an hour between them. Our strategy was solid and Richard rode in a very mature manner to secure an excellent sixth position on the grid, which when you consider there are two BSB regulars in front of him, is very impressive."
This weekend's two rounds of the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship coincides with the British round of MotoGP, giving Nottingham racer Cooper a chance to impress in front of an expected 100,000 visitors - the biggest crowd so far this year.
